What's the difference between an Ad Hoc Ride and one that gets input directly to the club's online calendar after the NL deadline is missed?

Walt,

in my opinion any ride entered into the website that doesn't make the newsletter is an ad hoc ride.

Maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding was that any ride listed on the ride schedule calendar was not an Ad Hoc ride, even if it didn't make into the Newsletter. Ad Hoc, in my understanding, are last minute and not on the schedule. Perhaps the Rides Coordinator could weigh in and clarify for us?

I think that requiring a ride to be both in the schedule and in the newsletter is maybe a bit to restrictive as a leader may not know 5 weeks in advance what their ability to lead will be. I think that any ride, entered onto the schedule less than 48 hours (24? 72?, whatever the ride coordinators decide) before the ride start should be considered Ad Hoc.

I agree with Jay. Planning rides up to six weeks in advance to meet the newsletter deadline was necessary when the printed newsletter was the only way to disseminate information, but now that we have an online calendar, I don't think that the newsletter deadline should still be the requirement for club rides. Many clubs have done away with their paper newsletters. It saves paper and postage.

We will discuss this at tonight's Executive Committee meeting. I agree that a formal definition is needed and should reflect the changes in the way we're communicating with members. Stay tuned!
