First of all, this is my first post so it surely is a practice run. Secondly, what the heck is the "Topic icon" all about? Thirdly, how can I announce an Ad Hoc ride for say, everyone in the club except for a few who just ruin a ride for me? Would this be too anti-social? Please be honest. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Hello! No worries; it's new to most of us so we'll learn together. The topic icons don't have to be used, but can be to indicate visually what the post is about. For example, the question mark is a question; the light bulb a suggestion or idea; the heart, according to guide to topic icons I found, "This can mean whatever you like it to mean. It is usually interpreted to be a "gift" from the topic creator to the rest of the community. It could, for example, represent gratitude or admiration for the work of others in the community."

The X: Usually means that the question or problem discussed in the topic was not able to be resolved and that the subject is closed.

The check mark: Usually means that the question or problem discussed was resolved to the satisfaction of the topic owner and that the subject is closed.

Per your other question, rides listed through CBBC site, including ad hoc, are open to all members.
