Sun August 4, 2024 - Annual Sandy Hook Seashore Trek CO-LEADER(S) WELCOME
Level B-: 14mph, 70 miles. Meet at Visitor Center of Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Route 33 Business, Manalapan, NJ. Ride leaves at 8:00 am. Picturesque adventure ride from Central NJ > Sandy Hook, a 1665-acre barrier peninsula protruding into bay between NJ & NY. Sandy Hook offers a view of Manhattan skyline, as well as 7 mi of beaches, a lighthouse, and holly forest. Shortly before reaching seashore, we'll stop at Mt. Mitchell Scenic Overlook County Park, which includes a memorial to heroes of 9-11. This county park provides a spectacular overlook of Sandy Hook Bay & NYC skyline. Route to & from Sandy Hook will take us along Navesink & Shrewsbury Rivers, as well as Swimming River Reservoir. Beginning & ending segments are flatish/gently rolling, with a few rollers, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Total elevation gain 2189 feet. Middle portion (near/on the beach) is flat. Food stops at Mile 25 & 45, + optional Rita's Water Ice stop at Mile 62, near Finish. DRIVING DIRECTIONS to start point (Visitor Center Monmouth Battlefield State Park): 1) NJ Turnpike North to Exit 8/Hightstown Freehold. 2) From Exit 8 ramp, turn right onto NJ-33 East. Stay on 33 East. 3) After crossing CR 527/Millhurst Rd, NJ-33 will split into Business & Expressway. Take right-lane exit for 33 Business, then bear right at bottom of ramp for 33 Bus East. Look for sign for Monmouth Battlefield Visitor Center. Turn left at Visitor Center entrance. Parking lot is at the end of a long driveway. Please allow 75 mins drive time from Phila.
